Untethered Jailbreak for iPhone 4S and iPad 2 Released

Absinthe - Jailbreak for iPhone 4S and iPad 2

Ladies and Gentlemen!

Yes, whatever you read in the title of this post is absolutely true. After around 4 months of anticipation after the launch of the iPhone 4S in October and a lot of hard work by pod2g and the other devs in the jailbreak community, the untethered jailbreak for A5 devices was made available to the public.

I had been eagerly waiting for the iPhone 4S jailbreak to be released now that it is finally release, on behalf of the iTA team and our readers, I would like to thank and congratulate the dream team of hackers including pod2g, p0sixninja, MuscleNerd, planetbeing, Saurik, and many others.

Absinthe - Jailbreak for iPhone 4S and iPad 2

Since the launch of iPhone 4S in October last year, this is the first successful jailbreak for this A5 device.

The iOS 5.0.1 A5 untethered jailbreak is compatible with the following:

  • iPad 2 running iOS 5.0.1
  • iPhone 4S running iOS 5.0 or 5.0.1

The untether jailbreak for the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 has been codenamed as Absinthe. Initially, Absinthe was released for only Mac but just a couple of days after that more updates have been released for Absinthe which include the compatibility for Windows PC and Linux machines as well.

As per the dev teams’ plan for the tools that will make the jailbreak for iPhone 4S and iPad 2 possible, there are 3 tools in total which will be released to the public.

  • Absinthe – A graphical user interface jailbreak tool which has already been released for Mac, Windows PC and Linux.
  • Dev Team CLI – This will be a CLI (command line inteface) that will make troubleshooting easier.
  • RedSn0w – This is a very well known traditional graphical user inteferface used for jailbreaking. We expect this to be released sometime later after the CLI is released.

I have jailbroken my iPhone 4S using my Windows PC and it was all done in less than 10 minutes πŸ˜‰ I would be coming up with a full tutorial for the process shortly. Till then, download Absinthe on your Windows, Mac or Linux machine and go ahead to explore the power of iOS.

So, have you jailbroken your iPhone 4S or iPad 2? Excited?
